MSI launched its Gaming series of motherboards for the LGA1151-socketed Skylake last week, and now the vendor is targeting mainstream users with the Z170A PC Mate. The board is designed for users looking to take advantage of Intel’s new platform, but without the added features that are included in the gaming or overclocked-focused motherboards.
The board has 24-pin ATX and 8-pin EPS power connectors, along with a 6-phase CPU VRM. The four DDR4 DIMM slots can accommodate a maximum of 64GB of dual-channel RAM. Connectivity options include a M.2 32Gb/s slot, six SATA 6Gb/s ports and one SATA-Express 16Gb/s connector.
Expansion slots are in the form of two PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots, three PCI-Express 3.0 x1 slots and two legacy PCI slots. The ATX form-factored Z170A PC Mate offers one HDMI 2.0, DVI and D-Sub ports, along with two USB 3.1 ports, four USB 3.0 ports on the real panel and headers for two additional USB 3.0 connectors.
Also included is a Realtec ALC887 codec that can drive 7.1 channel surround audio, along with a Realtec RTL8111H Gigabit Ethernet port.
The no-frills nature of the Z170A PC Mate means that it costs less than a board catered to gamers or power users, but with all the basic features intact. If you’re interested, the motherboard is now available from Amazon and Newegg for $120.
