MSI Entertainment Series Notebook: MSI EX300 Review

The MSI EX300 notebook is loaded with Intel’s Centrino 2 technology and discrete graphics for all your entertainment needs. Join us for a quick run-through of this machine.

We had the opportunity to check out the MSI’s EX300 Entertainment series notebook, based on the Intel Centrino 2 mobile platform.

MSI claims that this laptop has a unique fashionable style by incorporating some elements of athleticism into it. As seen in the image below, the top of the EX300 has a slight curvy bulge-out design, which serves to differentiate it from the rest of the laptops in the field with flat tops. In addition to that, buyers can choose between a blue- and red-colored top.

Although the EX300 was launched last year, our review unit is updated with the latest hardware components. Here’s a quick look at the EX300 specifications:-

– Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 (2.4GHz, 3MB L2 cache)
– Intel PM45 chipset
– Intel WiFi/Link 5100 wireless
– 4GB DDR2 800MHz memory
– ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450 256MB graphics
– High Definition audio with support for Dolby
– 320GB SATA 5400rpm HDD
– DVD-RW Super-Multi drive
– Gigabit LAN
– Bluetooth 2.0 w/ EDR
– 2MP webcam
– SD/MMC/MS card reader
– 13.3-inch 1280×800 glossy TFT LCD

Upon opening the lid, we found the chassis to be similar to that used in NEC’s Versa line of laptops.

The layout is neat and simple. The screen hinge is sturdily constructed (which is a plus point), although it could not be tilted back as much as we liked it to.

The 2-megapixel webcam is located above the screen, right in the middle, with the digital microphones located just to the right of it.

There are plenty of rubber stoppers to prevent the LCD bezel from contacting the palm rest surface.
