Motorola publishes list of devices eligible to get Android 7.0 Nougat

Motorola has been at the forefront of the software update game in recent years, often bringing the latest version of Android to its devices ahead of other manufacturers. The Lenovo-owned company doesn’t do much tinkering with Android, allowing itself to push software updates often within the same month as Google’s Nexus devices get a new Android iteration. A company¬†spokesperson recently revealed that Motorola would begin pushing the Android 7.0 Nougat update to the Moto Z and Moto G4 lineups in the final quarter of this year, and the manufacturer has now published a list of all the devices it will be updating to Nougat.

Here’s the official list:

  • Moto G (4th Gen)
  • Moto G Plus (4th Gen)
  • Moto G Play (4th Gen)
  • Moto X Pure Edition (3rd Gen)
  • Moto X Style
  • Moto X Play
  • Moto X Force
  • Droid Turbo 2
  • Droid Maxx 2
  • Moto Z
  • Moto Z Droid
  • Moto Z Force Droid
  • Moto Z Play
  • Moto Z Play Droid
  • Nexus 6

Motorola has included most of its recent devices, although a few notable names, like the (recently launched) Moto E3 Power and the Moto G (2015), are missing. Oddly, the company includes the Nexus 6 in the list – being a Nexus device, the Nexus 6’s update will be handled by Google, so Motorola probably thought of adding it to the mix to make sure consumers don’t start asking questions. Motorola doesn’t mention a time frame for the update; the Moto G4 and Moto Z devices should still be the front runners, and the ex-Google-owned OEM should make things clear as the months go by. Android 7.1 will also be making an appearance towards the end of the year, and it remains to be seen if Motorola will wait for its release before updating some of the handsets on the list.
