Moto Z2 Play ASEAN launch & Hands-on

July 5th, Bangkok – Motorola today launched the second generation of the Moto Z series: the Moto Z2 Play and the latest additions to the MotoMods family. The first truly successful modular smartphone family, the Moto Z series has sold 4 million units in a year and has helped Motorola to achieve #4 smartphone brand ranking in the Asia Pacific.

Replacing the original Moto Z Play, the new Z2 Play is a slimmer, sleeker device with a weather-resistant all-metal unibody and a 5.5-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display. The device uses a 2.2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 626 processor paired to a 3000mAh battery for up to 24 hours of power, though you can fast charge up to seven hours of power in just 15 minutes of charging. The  Z2 Play’s 12-megapixel main camera now comes with dual pixel autofocus and laser autofocus technology for brighter, sharper images even in low light. The front 5-megapixel camera now has dual colour corrected flash for better looking selfies in day or night. Depending on country, the  Z2 Play has either a 3GB or 4GB RAM, 32GB or 64GB ROM with microSD card support up to 2TB, simultaneous 3G & 4G support and a range of four colours – Lunar Gray and Super Black, Fine Gold and Nimbus Blue.

To further enhance user experience, Motorola have included a number of features including automatic Night Display that enables warmer screen tones, Moto Voice and the ability to activate the torchlight and camera simply by shaking or twisting the phone (check out our unboxing video).

The Moto  Z2 Play is fully compatible with all existing and upcoming Moto Mods and will be available ASEAN wide in the next few months, starting with Thailand on 6th July.

New Moto Mods

The second generation Moto Mods will be fully compatible with all existing Moto Z series devices and includes a new JBL SoundBoost 2 speaker Mod, new Moto Style Shells that enable wireless charging, the new Moto TurboPower Pack. The most interesting new Mod is the Moto GamePad which enhances a user’s gameplay experience with a range of thumbsticks and buttons.
