If you own a Moto Z Play and have been wondering if the handset will be updated to Android 7.1.1 Nougat anytime soon, we have some good news for you. A Motorola rep has confirmed that the smartphone will be updated to Android 7.1.1 Nougat. However, the rep did not give out any info on when the update will actually begin to roll out to users.
The Moto Z Play was launched with Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system out of the box last year. In January this year, Motorola released the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the handset. The Android 7.0 rollout for the Moto Z Play happened around the same time as other Moto Z devices, so there is a possibility that Motorola will begin seeding the Android 7.1.1 update for all three Moto Z devices simultaneously in the coming weeks. It should be noted that Motorola is yet to roll out the Android 7.1.1 Nougat to any device. In fact, there are very few non-Nexus/Pixel smartphones out there running on Android 7.1.1 or 7.1.2.
While Android 7.1.1 isn’t a major update, it is slightly disappointing that Motorola is no longer as swift as it used to be in rolling out software updates to its devices.
