Motorola has once again proved that it is among the more reliable Android OEMs when it comes to consistent software updates for its devices. The company today announced that it will begin rolling out the Android 7.0 Nougat update for its flagship Moto Z and Moto Z Force smartphones this week onwards. The update, in addition to including all the Nougat features, will also bring Google Daydream compatibility.
After the update, the Moto Z and the Moto Z Force will be the first non-Google smartphones to be compatible with the Daydream VR platform. Currently, only the Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones are compatible with the Google Daydream VR platform. Daydream-ready certification is only provided to phones that have been built for VR with high-resolution displays, ultra-smooth graphics and high-fidelity sensors for precise head tracking. Once you get the Nougat update installed on your Moto Z or Moto Z Force, you will be able to enjoy VR content by purchasing the Daydream View VR headset and controller.
While Motorola says the update will begin rolling out this week, it might take a few weeks for the update to be rolled out for all units in different markets. For now, the Nougat update has only been released in the US for the Moto Z Droid and Moto Z Force Droid on the Verizon network. Unlocked international units are likely to receive the update first, while the carrier versions may have to wait much longer as the update will need to be certified by the carrier before it is pushed out.
