Mitsubishi announces new HDTV with built-in Blu-ray and hard disk recorder

While some people may prefer to build up every aspect of their home theatre setup with individual, standalone components in order exercise as much control over the hardware as possible, there will always be others who prefer the convenience of having everything baked into a single device so that the initial setup is nothing short of a breeze. And leave it to Mitsubishi to take the concept of an all-in-one system which consists of a HDTV that comes with various bells and whistles, such as a built-in Blu-ray and hard disk recorder, among others.

For most people, the act of building up one's very own home theatre setup out of various individual components is something which many will aspire to do at least once in their life, except that the high cost involved in doing so, especially where time and real estate is concerned, can be high enough to deter all but the more enthusiastic consumers. However, if you are the kind of consumer who is willing to pay good money for a more convenient solution, chances are you will have much to love about Mitsubishi's new LCD television, which is clearly designed to cater to the needs of such audiences.

According to the official press release issued by Mitsubishi, the REAL LCD-22BLR500 is an all-in-one package which consists of a 22-inch HD television set that comes bundled with a variety of other appliances built into the device. Indeed, the real biggest of the REAL LCD-22BLR500's package comes from the fact that Mitsubishi has managed to cram in not only a digital TV tuner, but a Blu-ray recorder that features a 500GB hard disk and boasts support for AVCREC.

In addition, Mitsubishi claims that the REAL LCD-22BLR500 also comes bundled with support for a variety of standard features most people will expect to see on HDTVs, such as the inclusion of an Ethernet port for online connectivity, along with a built-in SD card reader and a USB port for media playback via external storage devices. This essentially means that users of the REAL LCD-22BLR500 are unlikely to require the purchase of any additional peripherals to set up a functional home theatre setup (save for the addition of surround speakers) right out-of-the-box.

Unfortunately, Mitsubishi has not released any information as to whether it will be releasing the REAL LCD-22BLR500 for sale outside of its own domestic Japanese market. That being said, if that is not going to deter you from importing one over somehow, you might be interested to know that the device will be made available for retail on July 21 at the price of 100,000 yen (approx US$1,238).
