Micron unveils Crucial branded M550 SSDs

Drives available in various form factors with capacities ranging from 64GB to 1TB.

Micron rolled out a new addition to its Crucial line Tuesday, the M550, which are available in ten different models across three different form factors.

The M550 uses Micron’s 20nm MLC memory and Marvell’s 88SS9189 controller. Depending on the specific drive, this will offer up to 95,000 IOPS and a maximum of 550MB/s sequential reads, and up to 500MB/s sequential write speed. This is an improvement over the 50,000 IOPS and 500MB/s read and 400MB/s write speeds that were offered in earlier models.

The new drives are available in the mSATA, M.2 and 2.5-inch form factors. The mSATA and M.2 form factors have a maximum capacity of 512GB, while the 2.5-inch form factor comes in different models with up to a 1TB capacity.

The Crucial M550 is available now from retailers.
