Micromax quietly unveils Canvas Fun A74, A63 coming soon as well

You can’t close in on the once undisputed leader of a smartphone market as large and important as India by releasing one new product every six months, so Micromax enriching its Canvas line-up is probably not surprising news.

Micromax Canvas Fun A74

What may be surprising is the OEM has chosen to not do a lot of fuss about the Canvas Fun A74, already up for grabs via a number of Indian stores, or about the A63, which has popped up out of nowhere on Micromax’s website, being set to go on sale in the coming weeks.

And that’s a real shame, because the A74 for instance might have what it takes to become an ample commercial hit. Namely, an ultra-low price tag (roughly $115, or INR 7,749) and a list of features that’s modest on the whole, but that has plenty of silver linings.

The thickest of these silver linings is probably the pre-loaded Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, though the display is also fairly generous in size (4.5 inches), while the MediaTek processor… not awful, packing two cores clocked at 1.3 GHz.

On the not so bright side, you do have plenty of sub-par features here, specifically 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of on-board storage, 1,500 mAh battery and FWVGA resolution (854 x 480 pixels) for the otherwise impressive screen.

Moving on to the Canvas Fun A63, it’s pretty obvious this has even fewer things going for it, but in lack of official pricing you’d better not write it off. After all, were it to cost, say, 80 bucks would you be fazed by its meager, cramped 4-inch 800 x 480 screen, humble 2 MP rear camera, 512 MB RAM, Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity or 1,500 mAh ticker? I don’t think so.
