MediaTek to launch 8-core MT6592 chipset by the end of July

Popular Smartphone chipset manufacturer MediaTek is getting ready to drop an 8-core processor on top of us, by the end of July.

MediaTek… Who would have thought that the chipsets made by this company would come to power almost every up and coming Smartphone made in China, and that the biggest brands such as Sony would also be using its products in their own low-cost phones. Enough of that… So the latest reports from Taiwan say that MediaTek is getting ready to launch their first… Hold your breath… 8-core chipset, by the end of July!

Now we aren’t really having a hard time believing this bit of news as MediaTek’s octa-core chipset plans date back to 2012, with the project taking a back seat for the new LTE chipset that the company was working on. Well, it seems that the octa-core chip is real and will probably amaze us with its efficiency and combined (8-core) performance.

MediaTek MT6592 Chipset specs:

  • 8 x ARM Cortex A7 CPU
  • CPU Clock Speed Up To 2 GHz
  • 28nm Manufacturing Process

Leaked AnTuTu benchmark scores from last year put the performance of the 8-core development chipset at 30,000 (higher), putting it in league with the Snapdragon 800 SoC. The report also says that while the first batch of processors will be ready by the end of July (so that OEMs can use it for development of future devices), mass production should begin in November, with a December release for the first Chinese super-phones based on the new 8-core wonder. Exciting times ahead!
