Mad Catz M.O.J.O. Android game console launching December 10 for $249

Mad Catz has released details of the hardware specs and pricing for its upcoming Android powered game console, the M.O.J.O.

Mad Catz MOJO

At $249, the M.O.J.O. game console is costlier than other micro-consoles like the GameStick and Ouya, but it comes with much better hardware.

The console features Nvidia’s 1.8 GHz Tegra 4 SoC, along with 2 GB RAM, 16 GB internal memory that can be extended to 128 GB via SDXC, along with Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi a/b/g/n. The M.O.J.O. comes with one Ethernet socket, USB 3.0 port, one USB 2.0 port, one HDMI out and a micro-SD card slot. The console runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. The console also features Mad Catz’s GameSmart technology for connecting other Bluetooth devices.

The key difference with the M.O.J.O. when seen against consoles like the Ouya is that you can play games available on Google’s Play Store directly. Games available on Tegra Zone will also work on the console. The console will come pre-loaded with both game stores once it launches on December 10. Also, its C.T.R.L.R. controller can be used as a standalone joystick on select Android handsets. The console was meant to feature PC streaming, but all mention of it has been removed from the announcement. We might yet see this feature at a later date.

Mad Catz is taking pre-orders for the console now, and for $249, you get the M.O.J.O. console along with one C.T.R.L.R controller and a HDMI connector.
