Blue Microphones, a perennial favourite amongst streamers and content producers, has been acquired by tech giant Logitech in a cash-only acquisition worth US$117 million. Responsible for the iconic Yeti and Snowball condenser microphones, this acquisition will result in Logitech taking over the microphone manufacturer’s product lineup.
Immediately apparent are the radically different approaches to product design of the two brands. While Blue encases its condenser microphones in a decidedly funky retro form, with bold glossy colours and unabashed chrome accents, Logitech designs its products for gamers and content producers, with muted colours and monochrome colour schemes. It would be exciting to see where this acquisition will bring both brands.
Logitech’s line of electronic peripherals target all segments of tech consumers. From general productivity to gamers with the Logitech G and Astro Gaming lineup, to designers and professionals, Logitech does not confine itself to computing peripherals. The brand also has a strong footing in the audio market: with Ultimate Ears for enthusiasts and audiophiles, and Jaybird for fitness and active users.
While Blue’s products target a niche of content producers like podcasters and video makers, Logitech’s vast portfolio of products and gadgets definitely has a place for the brand. The company has acknowledged that this acquisition will mark an expansion in capability by providing a “logical adjacent opportunity with great synergies”.
