LG Display announces thinner LCD displays for notebooks with Advanced In-Cell Touch

LGD

LG Display today announced that it will soon begin mass producing new thinner notebook LCD panels with Advanced In-Cell Touch (AIT) technology.

The panel features 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution and incorporates the ‘In-Cell’ touch function that has been used on a few smartphones so far, including LG’s own 2015 flagship smartphone the G4. AIT employs a touch sensor that is embedded on the LCD panel itself, eliminating the need for an additional touch layer on top of the LCD panel.

Thanks to the new AIT technology, the panel is 1mm thinner than conventional LCD panels with touch capability. LG claims it is 25% thinner and 200 grams lighter than other 15.6-inch panels that feature a Full HD resolution and a touch layer.

LG expects notebooks using the AIT equipped panel in 15.6-inch and 14-inch sizes to be released by the end of the year.
