Lenovo unveils IdeaPad K1 Android tablet in Singapore

This afternoon, Lenovo showcased one of the three tablets which the company has launched last week in China. Designed for consumers, the IdeaPad K1 Android tablet sports a high definition display, dual cameras, 802.11 Wi-Fi connectivity and is powered by Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core mobile processor.

The Lenovo IdeaPad K1 sports a 10.1-inch high definition widescreen display (1280×800) with 10-point multi-touch functionality. It is powered by Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 (1GHz) processor and runs the latest Google Android 3.1 operating system. The K1 also features SSD storage of 16GB, 32GB or 64GB configurations, though the model that is selling here is a 32GB, Bluetooth, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity, microSD memory card reader, micro HDMI out and two web cameras (2-megapixel front and 5-megapixel rear). The ArcSync cloud storage application is included with the IdeaPad K1 that offers 2GB storage for storing your image, videos and document files.

On the bottom edge (if you hold the tablet in landscape orientation), we see the micro HDMI output, 3.5mm audio jack and the dock replicator port for docking the K1 onto the optional docking station. The microphone, power button, volume controls and the screen orientation lock are conveniently placed on the left edge.

There is a physical home button on the right of the display which has multiple functions. If you are already in an application, simply scroll the button downward like you would with a mouse scroll and it will perform a "Back" command. Pressing and holding the button will do a screen capture of the current screen and pressing the button brings you to the home screen. Lenovo has also included its own unique Lenovo App Shop that offers a wide range of apps from music, movies, books, productivity, social networking, weather, printing etc. According to the company, the App Shop should be available in August.

The 32GB Wi-Fi IdeaPad Tablet K1 will be available in Singapore from August 2011 with a price tag of S$699. And in celebration of National Day 2011, the product will be priced at S$599 from 5 to 9 August 2011. The 3G version will be made available at a later date.

Lee Chown How, country general manager of Lenovo Singapore, said that building on the momentum and the experience the company have on the PC industry, Lenovo is officially announcing it is  entering into the global tablet market with the launch of the first tablet, IdeaPad K1.

"Tablet is a very important part in our Lenovo's product strategy, which is why in February this year, we announced the dedicated group, called the MIDH (Mobile Internet and Digital Home Business) division whose focus is on multimedia devices. And the first product will be the tablet we introduced into the market to address the demands of consumers. Based on our analysis, we looked at the different demands in terms of entertainment and usage of tablets, as well as the productivity from the business side. And last week, we have announced the full portfolio of tablet products such as the IdeaPad K1 for the consumers, as well as the commercial ThinkPad tablets," Lee said.
