Designed for versatility, Leica’s latest update to the V-Lux line of bridge cameras, the Leica V-Lux 5 (SGD 1,850)has just been announced. This includes long-awaited compatibility with the Leica FOTOS app, which enables remote control and shooting.
Specifications are similar to the Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ1000 II, which was launched earlier this year in February at a slightly lower MSRP of around SGD 1,400.
With a newly-developed, larger 20-megapixel, 1-inch CMOS image sensor, the Leica V-Lux 5 has been improved in terms of imaging performance, with a maximum sensitivity of ISO 12800 and integrated optical image stabiliser allowing for great low-light performance even without a tripod.
A 3-inch articulating touchscreen LCD panel enables easy operation, especially for shooting in creative angles. The OLED finder, with 2.36 million dots, allows for greater contrast and colour depth – rendering images more life-like.
The Leica DC Vario-Elmarit 9.1-146mm f/2.8-4 ASPH. zoom lens on the V-Lux 5 delivers a 35mm equivalent focal length range of 25mm-400mm, while delivering macro capabilities. This means that everything, from wide, standard, telephoto and even close-up perspectives can be effectively captured, with a wide aperture that varies between f2.8 to f4.
Several other software features improve the functionality of the V-Lux 5. Exposure modes like Focus Stacking and Post Focusing, along with Face Recognition and 4K Burst Mode conveniently allow for creative expression.
Action photography is an easy feat for the V-Lux 5, with continuous shooting of up to 12fps.
For video, the Leica V-Lux 5 offers 4K (3840 x 2160p) recording at 24, 25 or 30 fps. For higher frame rates, full-HD recording can be performed at up to 60 fps for slow-motion and creative edits. It also offers a 3.5mm stereo jack for external microphones, along with Micro HDMI for video output.
The Leica V-Lux 5 is available at Leica Store Singapore at SGD 1,850.
