Leaked iPhone 6 cases hint at new buttons

A couple of purported next generation iPhone cases have surfaced online, giving a glimpse of the expected button placement on the iPhone 6.

Apple is expected to ramp up production of the iPhone 6 over the summer which means that we’re bound to see more and more of these component and part leaks. The authenticity of these parts can always be called into question, but even in the past such leaks have given us a solid picture of what to expect from the upcoming device.

Two cases based on the purported iPhone 6 schematics have surfaced online for the 4.7-inch and 5.7-inch iPhone models. This contradicts a lot of rumors we have heard up till now. The consensus in the rumor mill seems to be on 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays for two new iPhone models. Rumor has it that at first Apple will only release the 4.7-inch iPhone, presumably in September. It would then follow up the launch with the 5.5-inch model a few months later.

The cases seen here have different cut outs for buttons placements. Apple hasn’t moved around the buttons to much on the iPhone, they’re more or less the same as they were when the original iPhone came out. However in the top left corner and the top right side profile one can clearly see additional cutouts, apart from the usual cutouts. This hints at the possibility of new buttons as well as existing buttons being moved around.

Famed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has already predicted that the new iPhone will come with a relocated power/sleep button. Kuo has been right about Apple in the past. Recently he has made a lot of predictions about the company’s 2014 roadmap in a road to investors. Kuo also believes that two new iPhones with larger displays are on the cards for fall 2014.

It merits mentioning here that so far Apple hasn’t confirmed or denied any rumors. The company is tightlipped about its smartphone plans, it has always been that way. We can’t expect to hear something from Cupertino in the meantime. So even if rumors and leaks might come from sources with good track records, one can never be too sure. With an open mind keep absorbing the rumors, they’re not going to stop anytime soon.
