KitKat update rolling out to Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3, US versions of Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3

Samsung is rolling out the latest version of Android to quite a few of its devices today, including two of its flagships in the US and the largest phone in its lineup.

Samsung has started rolling out the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update to the international variant of the Galaxy Mega 6.3, and the Sprint and US Cellular models of the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3, respectively.

The Galaxy S4 Active was treated to KitKat earlier this week, and now the Korean manufacturer is back with an update with three more devices. Rather, Samsung is only updating the Galaxy Mega 6.3 directly, as the other two are simply getting the update later than their unlocked counterparts thanks to the usual delays that are associated with software updates for carrier variants of devices.

The changelog for the update should be the same across all devices – improved performance and smoother interface, advanced location control, wireless printing support, white status bar icons, lower memory consumption (probably won’t be that noticeable thanks to Samsung’s bloated software), expanded emoji support, and more. The Galaxy Note 2 is also receiving KNOX 2.0, the latest version of Samsung’s security suite for enterprises.

Leaked documents had revealed earlier this month that the month of June would bring the goodness to KitKat to multiple Samsung phones, so it shouldn’t be long before the update starts streaming to more devices in the company’s massive smartphone lineup. As usual, these updates are staged and might take a few weeks to reach everyone, but at least they are starting to roll out, even if we might be very close to the unveil of the next version of Google’s world-encompassing mobile OS.
