Japanese brochure further details Sony Xperia Z1 mini, the little phone that could

It’s not the size that matters, it’s how you use it. Or it’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog. Whichever of the two sayings you prefer, you’re probably over the moon with excitement about Sony’s Xperia Z1 mini.

Sony Xperia Z1 mini

Unreleased and unannounced officially, the Z1 mini has stopped being a secret a long time ago, with NTT DoCoMo over in Japan going so far as to spill every single bean on the little guy’s specs and features.

Little only in appearance, because deep down the Z1 mini is just as impressive, nay more impressive than the original Xperia Z1. Sure, its display is smaller, at 4.3 inches, and the resolution is itself downsized (from 1,080p to 720p), but the processor is tipped to be the same (i.e. a quad-core 2.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800), as is the 20 MP rear-facing camera, 2 gigs of RAM and pre-loaded Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

And odds are these bones will work better when integrated in a more compact body. At least as far as people with normal hands and normal trouser pockets are concerned. Besides, Sony will probably look to lower the pricing bar (since people really believe that “bigger is better” BS), so all in all Z1 mini’s launch could be the biggest (pun intended) mobile tech event of the fall.

Or winter, as there’s still no word on an ETA, both for Japan and the rest of the world. But NTT DoCoMo is slated to reveal its latest batch of uber-cool smartphones and tablets on October 10, so maybe we’ll find out more three days for now.

For the time being, let’s be happy a second part of the carrier’s previously leaked brochure has come to light, showing off the Z1 mini (aka Z1 f) from a lot of different angles and in a lot of different colors: conventional and bland black and white, but also snazzy pink and kooky lime. Put me down for one of each.
