Famous analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is back again with some new info on the new iPhone 8 models to be released this year. In his latest research note, the analyst has confirmed that Apple will integrate wireless charging support on all three new iPhone models to be released this year. That means the “iPhone X” will not be only one in the lineup to feature a glass build.
While the glass casing will allow the new iPhones to support wireless charging, it also means the handsets could potentially overheat as glass doesn’t handle as well as metal does. Additionally, the analyst reveals the iPhone X model will use a new film sensor for 3D Touch, which will be more sensitive to heat. So in order to better dissipate heat, the analyst believes Apple will be using a graphite sheet on the iPhone X model. The new 3D Touch sensor is said to be between 30 and 50 percent more expensive than the one used in the iPhone 7 series, which could be one of the reasons why the handset is rumored to cost over $1,000. Along with a superior OLED panel, the premium model is also expected to offer a better 3D Touch experience compared to the “iPhone 7s” models.
The “iPhone 7s” models will not carry a ridiculous price tag like the iPhone X model, as they will be using LCD panels and may lack some other features that Apple could include with the premium model. Both models will have the same 4.7- and 5.5-inch screens as their predecessors.
