Intel today launched the latest Haswell-EX Xeon E7-V3 processor lineup for the server and enterprise segment of the market. The new Xeon E7-V3 family comprises of a total of 12 processors.
The processors launched today include the Xeon E7-8890 V3, E7-8800 V3, E7-8870 V3, E7-8860 V3, E7-4850 V3, E7 4830 V3, E7-4820 V3, E7-4809 V3, E7-8891 V3, E7 -8893 V3, E7-8880L V3, and the E7-8867 V3.
The flagship processor of the new E7-V3 family is the E7-8890 V3 with a total of 18 physical cores and 36 threads. It offers 45MB of L3 cache and has a base clock speed of 2.5 GHz with a boost clock of 3.3 GHz. Like all of the other E7-V3 processors, this one too is manufactured on a 22nm process. The 165W TDP rating CPU has been priced at $7,175.
Intel’s new E7-V3 Xeon family will be socket-compatible with V2 family of processors and support DDR3 as well as DDR4 memory. They are also capable of handling up to 6TB RAM and bring newer AVX2, more cores, more cache, and expanded RAS features when compared to the previous generation. Intel is actually claiming the new processors achieve an impressive 40 percent average performance improvement in comparison to the previous gen Xeon processors.
