Huawei IDEOS Review: World’s First Affordable Android Smartphone

Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., the largest telecommunication equipment supplier in China and the world’s number 2 in the mobile equipment industry, had recently worked with Google to release their first-ever Android 2.2 powered smartphone, IDEOS. Touted as the world’s first affordable smartphone, let us take a look and see how it performs.

To many people, the only product that they know of from Huawei is the HSDPA USB modem stick that they get when they sign up for the broadband on mobile. But, little do they know, Huawei is one of the biggest network and telecommunication equipment supplier, and is also the OEM manufacturer to some mobile phones.

Slowly moving away from being just a supplier, Huawei, with the introduction of the Huawei Ideos is putting forth its first step in entering the android smartphone market. Touting as the world’s first affordable android smartphone, the Huawei Ideos does just about everything right (what can really go wrong with android?), but with everything miniaturized.

Defined as an ‘entry-level’ smartphone but with high-quality hardware and software, it is marketed by Huawei to have a high price-to-performance ratio, evident by Ideos’ operating system, Android 2.2 (codename Froyo), which at the time of this writing, most other android devices are only at Android 2.1.

Collaboratively developed with Google, it is no wonder you will find Google’s namesake printed on the back cover of the phone. And talking about the back cover, the Ideos comes with a choice of either a metallic blue, pink or yellow back cover. Before we go in depth on this smartphone, lets take a look at the specifications.
