HTC's 2016 Nexus device could feature a pressure sensitive display

HTC has been rumored to be making two Nexus smartphones this year. While there hasn’t been much information to back that up, it looks like one of these Nexus devices from the Taiwanese manufacturer could come with a pressure sensitive screen. The titbit comes from Weibo, which has often been an accurate source of information about upcoming Android smartphones.

Apple hasn’t seen any competition to its 3D Touch display technology yet, except from Huawei and its Mate S smartphone. The Mate S doesn’t offer much functionality with a harder press of the touchscreen though. Samsung was said to be working on a similar feature for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, but like the USB Type-C port, a pressure sensitive screen didn’t make it into the retail versions of either device.

Xiaomi, Meizu, Oppo and Vivo are reportedly working on a 3D Touch-like display for their future devices, and it should be interesting to see which company manages to bring the feature into the mainstream on the Android side of the smartphone world.
