HTC unleashes EVO 3D Android smartphone in Singapore

This morning, HTC unveiled their latest Android smartphone, the EVO 3D, which promises 3D multimedia features and experience for users, without the need of 3D glasses. The EVO 3D sports a 4.3-inch display, uses 1.2GHz dual-core processor and is preloaded with Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

The HTC EVO 3D features qHD 3D 4.3-inch display, 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, microSD slot to support up to 32GB memory card, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity, stereo Bluetooth, integrated GPS and runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread mobile operating system with latest HTC Sense 3.0 user interface. It can capture videos and images in 3D, as well as support 3D gaming and video viewing, though that depends on the videos and the games. Like the Spiderman game, the game itself is developed in 3D. You can find some of these games on the Android Market, though there is no option for 2D-to-3D up-conversion though.

On the right of the EVO 3D are the camera shutter button, 3D and 2D camera mode switch and the volume controls (which also doubles up as the zoom buttons). The power button and 3.5mm audio jack are on the top, while the dual 5-megapixel cameras with dual LED flash are on the rear can capture high quality 3D images and videos. There is also a 1.3-megapixel front camera for video chat.

Putting the LG Optimus 3D side-by-side with the HTC EVO 3D, you can see that the latter may be slightly smaller than the Optimus 3D in terms of form factor, but both have the same 4.3-inch screen size and roughly the same thickness.

Wayne Tang, product manager of HTC Singapore, talks about the world being in 3D and that we should all capture the things around us in 3D, though it is impossible to do that with current breed of smartphones. Tang also introduces the various features of the HTC EVO 3D and said that the smartphone will come bundled with 3D content including The Green Hornet 3D movie, Spider-Man: Total Mayhem HD, Need for Speed SHIFT and The Sims 3. For 3D video capture, the files are saved in either JPS or MPO file format; according to Tang, you can select the file format to record in.

The HTC EVO 3D is scheduled to go on retail by end of August at all mobile operators and authrozied retailers at a suggested retail price of S$895.
