HP Envy Phoenix is the first PC with AMD Radeon R9 380 graphics card

Surprised? You should be. HP today revealed its new 2015 back to school PC lineup, and among the new models announced is the HP Envy Phoenix Tower PC that will be offered be offered with a choice of up to an NVIDIA GTX 980 or AMD Radeon R9 380 graphics card.

AMD isn’t expected to debut High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) based graphics cards until August, but HP states the Envy Phoenix Tower PC will be available for purchase from June 10 onwards on its official website. This either suggests the AMD R9 380 card will not be offered at launch or that the card may not feature HBM at all if it will indeed be available June 10 onwards in the HP gaming PC and perhaps via other channels as well.

If the AMD R9 380 will actually be available as soon as next month, we might be looking at a simple re-brand as had been suggested in an earlier leak. The R9 380 could be essentially the same as the R9 280 or R9 280X, based on the AMD Tahiti architecture.
