Hisense Sero 7 Pro, new $99 quad-core Android tablet

Hisense has released their first tablet for $99 that might give the Nexus 7 a run for its money in terms of value. It packs a quad core processor, hefty battery, micro SD slot, and more.

There has been a significant uptake in low-end Android tablets since the launch of the Nexus 7, but very few have been able to match it when it comes to what it offers for the price.  We may have a new competitor here, as Android Community is reporting on a new tablet from Hisense called the Sero 7 Pro that costs only $99. The surprising part is the specs for the device don’t seem to take much of a hit because of the low price, as you can see below.

  • 1.3 GHz quad-core processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB internal storage and a micro SD slot
  • 5 megapixel rear facing camera
  • 2 megapixel front facing camera
  • Mini-HDMI video out
  • Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/GPS/NFC
  • 4,000 mAh battery
  • Android 4.2.1

Those specifications are packing quite a punch for something priced as low as $99. As for build quality, it looks decent enough in pictures, and Android Community is reporting that their tipster has indicated that it feels premium for the price.

This device would be the company’s first entry into the tablet market, while it already sells televisions in the United States. The report also mentions that there is a website given on the box that isn’t active yet. The URL being http://hisense-usa.com/tablets. The tablet is apparently available at Walmart, which may have started selling them early. If you’re interested in a cheap but very capable tablet, then this one might be for you.
