Spotify will be finally getting Siri support with iOS 13.1, meaning that users can directly access their song libraries on the popular music streaming app by voice command without having to unlock their phones.

While this would place Spotify in a much better position to compete with Apple Music (though users need to specify that the song is to be played “on Spotify”), use of Siri functionality is limited to iPhone as of now, and seems to work mostly with music and not podcasts.

This means that Apple Watch will not support Spotify-targetted voice commands, and Apple HomePod will likely still not work with Spotify at all. Spotify will also prioritise music searches upon receipt of a voice command, restricting users’ ability to play podcasts.

Currently in beta, Spotify’s Siri integration has been a long time coming, with many viewing its lack with frustration. Some suspect the update, to be made on Spotify’s end, will arrive in the weeks to come.
