GTA V likely to run at native 720p resolution

An investigation by Gadget Mill casts doubt on Rockstar’s claim that GTA V will run at 1080p resolution.

Gadget Mill has done a little digging around GTA V’s official site and it seems that the game has not revealed any clues that the game will be running in 1080p HD on consoles. They claimed that the website’s directory failed to reveal any in-game screenshots larger than 720p resolution.

This doesn’t come as much of a shock to console gamers though. Often, titles produced for both the Xbox 360 and PS3 are upscaled natively to 720p or even 1080p due to aging hardware constraints. GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption run at 720p, and it will probably too much of a stretch for an end-of-gen title to run in full HD resolution especially since it’s pushing the consoles’ graphical constraints to the very limit.

Who knows, maybe the next-gen Xbox One and PS4 may be capable of running it in full HD resolution or higher, but at this point in time it seems likely that the resolution will be sacrificed to cater for optimized performance.
