Google Nexus 4 finally available in Singapore for $668

The 16GB variant of the Google Nexus 4 is now officially available in Singapore for $668 (US$349 on the Google Play Store) after strong customer demand for the flagship Nexus device from LG.

While the cheaper 8GB Nexus 4 is still unavailable, diehard local fans can now get their hands on the Nexus 4 as LG Singapore has bowed to strong consumer demand to bring in the 16GB variant.

Being a smartphone launched back in November last year, the Nexus 4's then high-end specs has since become slightly obsolete, relegating the phone to a mid-end offering. Its 4.7" 1280×768 screen (320ppi), 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro, HSDPA+ (no LTE) connectivity and 8MP camera pales in comparison to today's flagship models that pack Full-HD (1080p) screens, LTE baseband and 13MP cameras.

Social media posts made earlier this year on the official LG Mobile Singapore channels indicate it was a deliberate decision to keep the product away from potential local customers for so long, in order not to cannibalize on Optimus G's sales figures, which feature similar specifications. There were also reports of several people who had brought their Nexus 4 from overseas facing difficulty when exercising their repair warranties at the local service centres.

What's even more baffling is the company's decision to place a SRP of S$668 on the device, a significantly marked-up price compared to its original price tag of US$349 (approximately S$431) and even local forums parallel import prices, where they usually get sold for less than $500 each (16GB model).

Even so, the Nexus 4 would be the best choice for users and developer-types looking for a first tier Android experience (in terms of official updates) without the horrors of pre-loaded bloatware.

For those who don't mind paying more for the same thing, LG has provided us with a list of retail stores now carrying the Nexus 4, which you can find on the next page.
