Google and Intel will be co-holding a Chrome OS event next week

Chromebooks running Intel’s new Braswell hardware to likely debut at the event.

Google and Intel collaborate on several Chromebooks, like the Acer C720P along with other offerings from Hewlett-Packard, Asus, and Toshiba. The first batch of Haswell powered Chromebooks were launched last year, and it looks like we’re in for a refresh as both organizations are set to co-host an event centred around Chrome OS on May 6.

There isn’t any indication as to what the event might be about, but it is likely that we’ll see new hardware. Intel announced its Bay Trail successor, the Braswell line, earlier this month. Braswell is designed to be used in low cost hardware, like Chromebooks. Braswell is said to bring a more energy efficient design and will also be likely used in entry-level mobile devices. It is likely that we will see new Chromebooks running Braswell at next week’s event. While Intel is targeting low-cost devices with Braswell, its Cherry Trail line will be offered in mid- to high-end devices later this year.

The event will be chaired by Google’s VP of Product Management for Chrome OS, Caesar Sengupta and Intel’s vice president and general manager of the mobile computing, Navin Shenoy.

For those not interested in an Intel-backed Chromebook, there is always the Samsung Chromebook 2.
