Google claimed to be working on an Android VR platform

As seen at Mobile World Congress and Game Developers Conference recently, VR is definitely getting big and more manufacturers are jumping in the virtual reality bandwagon. Google is said to be betting big on the virtual reality segment as well and is reportedly working on an Android platform for virtual reality headsets.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Google has ‘tens of engineers’ working on coming out with an Android based platform for virtual reality applications. Like Android for mobile devices, the virtual reality software from Google will also be available freely to hardware manufacturers.

Google’s move at coming out with a software platform for virtual reality headsets isn’t very surprising since almost every major tech brand from Facebook to even Apple, is said to be working on VR products for the future. It is estimated that the VR market will grow significantly in the next few years, with total number of VR users expected to grow to 200 million by the year 2018.
