Goodbye ‘Halo 2’ and ‘Xbox Live’ on Original Xbox

Its a sad day for original Xbox users who are playing Halo 2 on Xbox Live. Today is the last day for users to play multiplayer first person shooter game online. On top of that, Microsoft is stopping online support for Halo 2.

The end of an era hits the Halo universe today. Today marks the last day diehard fans of 2004 first-person shooter Halo 2 will get to play online multiplayer matches.

In February, Microsoft revealed that it would drop online support on April 15 for games on the original Xbox, including popular titles such as Halo 2 and Star Wars: Battlefront.

“We’ll continue to evolve the service with features and experiences that harness the full power of Xbox 360,” Xbox Live general manager Marc Whitten said in the February statement announcing the change. “To reach our aspiration, we need to make changes to the service that are incompatible with our original Xbox V1 games.”

Developers at Bungie said they will head online to give Halo 2 “one last hoorah” today.
