GEAK launches first Smartwatch in China, runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

Beijing based start-up GEAK has launched the country’s first Smartwatch, runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Shanda GEAK Smartwatch

GEAK, a mobile hardware company owned by Shanda, launched China’s first Smartwatch earlier today. What makes this Smartwatch really “smart” is that the device runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, instead of being connected to a phone to enhance its functions. Behold, the good-looking GEAK Smartwatch.

GEAK Watch quick specifications:

  • 1 GHz Processor
  • 512 MB Of RAM
  • 1.55-inch Display
  • 4 GB ROM
  • GPS, NFC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0
  • Radio, Compass, Thermometer
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

This Smartwatch comes with a range of sensors and connectivity options that should keep you going even while you’re away from your beloved Smartphone. GEAK has customized the OS and skinned it so as to be able to comfortably use it on the tiny 1.55-inch panel (resolution unknown, we are guessing a 320 by 240 pixel screen).

The GEAK Watch goes on sale in China on the 3rd of July for an affordable price tag of just 1999 Yuan or $320. We really hope this beautiful and innovative product (first time we’re seeing real competition to the Kickstarter backed Pebble) makes it to the rest of the world, where it will be welcomed with open arms wrists.
