Games Convention Asia 2009

GCA 2009

Games Convention Asia (GCA) is back for the third year. Held at the Suntec International Convention and Exhibition Centre in Singapore from 17 to 20 September 2009, GCA will run alongside the two-day Games Convention Asia Conference (GCAC).

There are some booths on the third floor, including the Singapore Game Box.

The Singapore Game Box is a one-year pilot initiative jointly mooted by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) and the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA). The initiative aims to promote awareness of Made-By-Singapore game titles and allows local game developers to test and gather feedback for their game prototypes. — Source: MDA

Cherry Credits and china-based game company, Ourgame, are also located on the 3rd floor.

Apparently, this year’s GCA 2009 exhibition isn’t as big as last year. Last year, it occupies two halls, but this year, there’s only one. Not hard to tell that the gaming industry has also been hit by the bad economic crisis. But with the recovery in sight, hopefully next year we would see a bigger exhibition and more exciting games.

Microsoft Xbox 360 booth is on the right from the Hall 404 entrance and you can see they have fully equipped three displays, chair and steering wheel for you to try the new Forza 3 game – the main attraction at the booth.

And just opposite Microsoft is Electronic Arts (EA) booth. EA is showcasing some of the latest and upcoming games including “The Beatles Rockband” and “The Saboteur”. Interested gamers can have hands-on with the games at their booth.

Just behind EA booth is PlayCraft, a retailer for games and gaming products.

D-Link’s booth is facing PlayCraft’s, and the manufacturer is promoting their networking products such as wireless routers and network storage devices. (It seems a little weird to see a networking company having a booth in a game event).

Singapore Polytechnic has a booth at the side, advertising their various courses for School of Design as well as Unreal Technology Lab – a training hub for the game development community in Singapore and the region.

There is also a small area occupied by arcade machines such as Dancing Stage SuperNova, D1GP and DrumMania V6 Blazing!!!!

Replay Interactive is giving away one WWE championship belt replica to a lucky winner. To stand a chance to win, simply purchase a copy of WWE 2010 SmacDown vs Raw during the preorder period on any platorm. Five consolation prize winners will win the WWE encyclopedia (below the belt in the pic).
