Will Samsung have anything surprising to show off at its official Galaxy S8 event at the end of this month? It seems unlikely given the leaks that have crept up in recent weeks, having given us close-up looks of both the regular and Plus variants and details on the hardware these devices will carry. Now, information on the phones’ pricing and what colors they will be offered in has leaked, bringing us one step closer to knowing everything there is to know about Samsung’s upcoming flagship.
The new information is rather interesting, as the source says that the Galaxy S8 and S8+ will be offered in violet, in addition to silver and black. Violet isn’t a color often seen on smartphones, or ever if we consider recent history. Samsung experimented with a blue color variant for the Galaxy Note 7 that turned out to be extremely popular and was later brought to the Galaxy S7 edge after the Note 7 was phased out, and it is surprising to hear that the company might be replacing blue with violet this year. The source also says that these color options are for Europe and that other markets could see other variations.
Also revealed is the pricing. The Galaxy S8 will reportedly cost 799 Euro while the Galaxy S8+ will be priced at 899 Euro. Both prices are higher than the launch prices for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, but aren’t entirely unexpected given the Galaxy S8 devices are set to come with quite a few attractive features, including an edge-to-edge display, the Snapdragon 835 SoC, and Samsung’s own take on Apple Siri, Microsoft Cortana, and Google Assistant.
As usual, there is no guarantee this information is accurate, and the only confirmation will come at Samsung’s unveiling of the Galaxy S8. Samsung is set to take the wraps off the device on March 29th, with sales expected to start three weeks later.
