Fujifilm launches X-Pro1 interchangeable lens camera in Singapore

VR-Zone saw the Fujifilm X-Pro1 at the Consumer Electronics Show 2012, which claims to be the company's first compact system camera with 16-megapixel APS-C X-Trans CMOS sensor, new X lens mount, Hybrid Multi Viewfinder and three prime lenses. And today, Fujifilm has announced the X-Pro1 in Singapore and that it will be available in March.

According to Hiroshi Kawahara, operations manager of Products Planning Division, Fujifilm Corporation, the X-Pro1 was in development three years ago, even before the popular Finepix X100 that was launched last year. The Fujifilm X-Pro 1 features the new X-Trans CMOS sensor which claims to be capable of delivering resolution that is on par (if not, superior) to a full frame sensor. It incorporates the original "X-Mount" that is specifically designed to maximize the mirrorless design of the body, and has a short flange back distance (17.7mm). The camera also features Hybrid Viewfinder that is first seen on the X100, which lets you switch between optical and electronic viewfinder instantly. According to Fujifilm, three compact XF FUJINON fast aperture prime lenses will be available in March.

The Fujifilm X-Pro1 will begin shipping at end of February and retail in stores in March. The recommended retail price for the X-Pro1 is S$2,400 (w/GST)  for the body, and S$900 to S$1,000 (w/GST) for the basic lens. It is uncertain whether the X-Pro1 will make it in time for the IT Show 2012, which is happening in Singapore from 8 to 11 March.

"The company has put in a lot of effort in digital cameras, ever since the introduction of the world's first digital camera, DS-1P, in 1988. Fujifilm has been a strong player in the industry, especially in Japan, United States and Europe. We have a wide range of products and cameras from entry level to high-end models for SOHO and prosumer segment. Today, we are introducing our first interchangeable mirrorless camera, X-Pro1, which I believed should stand out among competition with its features and performance," said Hiroyuki Sakai, corporate vice president of Fujifilm Corporation, managing director of Fujifilm Asia Pacific and Fujifilm Singapore.
