Fujifilm Launches First GF Zoom Lens For Medium Format Mirrorless Cameras

Fujifilm has announced the availability of its first GF-mount telephoto zoom lens, the Fujinon GF100-200 f5.6 R LM OIS WR. With a 35mm equivalent focal length of 79-158mm, the GF100-200 is ideal for nature and landscape photography applications, adding on to Fujifilm’s GF series of medium-format optics, now totalling nine lenses.

A maximum f-stop of f5.6 means ideal separation between subject and background when used with Fujifilm’s line of GF-mount cameras: the already-released GFX 50S and GFX 50R. With micron-level precision in the manufacturing process, the lenses have powerful resolving power that is compatible with Fujifilm’s 100MP+ cameras. It will resolve optimally on the brand’s upcoming high-resolution flagship model, which is still currently under development.

The lens weighs in at 1,050g, with an external diameter of 89.5mm and length of 183mm. Aperture changes are in third stops, with a rounded diaphragm for pleasant defocus. It has a 67mm diameter filter thread.

The lens features a CIPA-standard 5.0-stop stabilisation for effective hand-held shooting even with high resolution sensors, and a robust build with Fujifilm’s WR pedigree, meaning that it is resistant to dust and weather, and is capable to be operated at temperatures down to -10°C.

Within, 20 elements in 13 groups include two Super ED and one Aspherical element to reduce field curvature, and chromatic aberrations for superior resolving power. A linear motor for autofocus means quiet and quick shooting, with a mechanical system to fix the focus position when the camera is powered down.

Minimum focus distance on the lens ranges from 0.6m at the wide end to 1.6m at the telephoto end, with a 0.2x maximum magnification factor. Angle of view ranges from 30.6° to 15.6°. It is also compatible with the GF1.4X TC WR, extending its focal length range to 140-280mm (111-221mm at 35mm equivalent).

Retailing at SGD 2,999, the Fujinon GF100-200 f5.6 R LM OIS WR is available locally in Singapore from 14 February 2019. It will come with front and rear lens caps, hood, pouch and tripod collar foot.
