When HTC announced the U Ultra flagship phablet in January this year, many of us wondered if the company will launch another new flagship this year. Turns out a new flagship is coming even sooner than expected. According to a new report on VentureBeat, the Taiwanese smartphone maker will launch its next flagship smartphone next month. The handset, codenamed Ocean, will be marketed as the HTC U.
The HTC U, claims the report, is going to sport a 5.5-inch display with 1440 x 2560 WQHD resolution and run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core SoC under the hood. Its main highlight will apparently be a touch-sensitive frame. Various sensors embedded within the frame will allow users to perform various actions with simple gestures such as squeezing or swiping along its left and right sides. This is something that hasn’t been done before, so we’re definitely excited about this feature, referred to as “Edge Sense”.

In the camera department, the HTC U is expected to feature a 12MP resolution Sony IMX362 sensor at the back and a 16MP IMX351 sensor on the front. In terms of storage, the handset will be offered in 64GB and 128GB variants, with a microSD card slot included for further expansion. The flagship smartphone will be running Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box with the HTC Sense 9 skin on top.
