First Firefox OS phone for consumers, ZTE Open, launches tomorrow in Spain for €69

ZTE is all set to launch the first Firefox OS phone for consumers, and it’s going to be cheap. How cheap? Read on to find out.

ZTE Open launch spain $90

Mozilla had declared a couple of months ago that with their new Firefox OS platform won’t compete in the high-end market. The company went on to declare that Firefox OS based phones will be cheap. How cheap? Well, we weren’t expecting it, but they meant as little as $50.

ZTE Open specifications:

  • 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM7225A
  • 256 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM
  • 3.5-inch HVGA (480 x 320) Display
  • 3.15 MP Camera
  • 1200 mAh Battery
  • Firefox OS

While ZTE won’t be launching a $50 phone (that privilege lies with Indian manufacturer Lava Mobiles), the ZTE Open which will be launched in Spain tomorrow can be will go on sale for just €69, roughly translating to about $90. Think that’s a good deal? Well, let’s sweeten the pot. The €69 includes €30 (or about $39) of prepaid value to the buyers. Wicked cool (oops, that’s all I could come up with).

Don’t expect the hardware of the ZTE Open to blow you away, but hey, a fully functional backup phone for $90 is nothing short of amazing. This one will serve as a good deal for those who don’t fancy the new Nokia Asha 501.
