21 July 2017 – Known for making affordable Hi-Res audio players, Fiio unwraps four new ‘Infinity Sound’ products with the belief that every ear deserves better sound from balanced audio cables. To find out more, we caught up with Fiio at their launch event in partnership with Eng Siang International at Singapore’s Suntec City Convention Centre. (Took lots of pictures too!)
X7 Mark II (S$999)
The star of the show is the Android-based Fiio X7 Mark II Digital Audio Player. The new X7 adds several important improvements like native DSD decoding, a new 8-Channel DAC from ESS (the ES9028PRO), much faster-charging for its 8-hour battery, and a duo of Micro-SD card slots that potentially stores up to 576 Gigabytes worth of Hi-Res music.* For both audiophiles and beginners alike, the X7 Mark II plays nice with both balanced and unbalanced headphone cables of the box.
Prefer to use an amp module from an old X7? The latest version is just as modular, so just swap it in!
X3 Mark III (S$379)
The Fiio X3 Mark III features a click-wheel that makes navigating your music and playlists a breeze while improving reliability. The X3 Mark III’s most important improvement is support for both balanced and unbalanced headphone outputs, in line with Fiio’s Infinity Sound mission. Other improvements include Dual DAC PCM5242 Chips, native DSD decoding, SPDIF output, a dual-DAC architecture for higher fidelity and Bluetooth 4.1 in a thinner and lighter form factor.
Q1 Mark II (S$179)
iPhone 7 users rejoice! The Q1 Mark II now features direct MFi support, finally letting you use the Q1 as a USB DAC connected to the iPhone’s Lightning port. The new Q1 boasts a battery life of 20-hours if used on its own (or 10-hours with an iPhone). It also supports native DSD256 decoding and (of course) balanced and unbalanced headphone output jacks.
Fiio F9 Metal Ripple Hybrid Three-unit IEMs (S$179)
These are the first IEMs from Fiio featuring both balanced and unbalanced cables that you could swap out on the go. The unbalanced cable features a typical 3.5mm jack and an in-line mic and control module which works with the new X7 and X3 DAPs, while the balanced 2.5mm jack OFC cable is silver plated for higher fidelity.
But it’s not just the flexibility that appeals to me. The F9s are also lightweight and designed to sound as great as they look; and as a bonus, Fiio is throwing in a free HB1 waterproof case!
The Fiio F9 is sold in Black or Red colours.
These new products from Fiio will be available in Singapore from August 2017.
