Dell power packs new XPS notebooks, adds ultrathin monitors, affordable VR desktop and Latitude notebooks

PC makers have generally used CES to launch some really cool products, but this year the majority of new PC notebooks showcased at CES were basically feature updates of prior generations, with perhaps the exception of the Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 and the HP Spectre 360 – two 15-inch notebooks that are the first to feature the new 8th Generation Intel Core Processor with Radeon RX M Graphics chipset – yes possums, the unspeakable has happened – Intel has partnered with bitter rival AMD to produce an SoC with Intel main processors and AMD Radeon GPU! (We’ve spoken with AMD representatives about the Intel/Radeon collaboration, and they said that AMD regards this chipset as a semi-custom client design, much like the APUs (Accelerated Processing Unit) they’ve created for Microsoft (Xbox One X) and Sony (PlayStation 4 Pro).

But where the HP Spectre 360 is basically a refresh of their 2017 model, Dell’s 2018 XPS 15 2-in-1, as well as the 2018 XPS 13, are all new cutting edge notebooks with a host of first-in-industry innovations!

Dell XPS 15 2-in-1

The Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 is a brand new convertible premium notebook from Dell, and probably the world’s most powerful and sleekest 15-inch 2-in-1. By using the new 8th Gen Intel Core processor with Radeon discrete graphics, Dell has taken advantage of the processor space saving (33% smaller than previous Core SoC, according to Intel) to really slim down the height of this notebook to 16mm,  making it too slim to incorporate the traditional USB-A port! Thankfully the XPS 15 2-in-1 comes with a generous array of 4 USB-C ports, two on each side, as well as a bundled USB-C multi-port adaptor. The new Intel/Radeon SoC enables the XPS 15 2-in-1 to power 4K videos and games, which can be viewed on a eye-catching InfinityEdge 4K Ultra HD 15.6-inch touchscreen display. The sharp screen supports full Windows Touchscreen and the XPS 15 2-in-1 can be converted from notebook to tablet just by rotating its screen, plus there’s a bundled stylus capable of meeting the needs of high end graphics design. Dell claims that the battery of the XPS 15 2-in-1 has up to 15 hours of performance, and that to ensure that this convertible notebook performs at peak power without overheating or burning your lap or fingers, the XPS 15 2-in-1 is the first notebook in the world to utilise GORE thermal insulation, which utilises silica aerogel for the material’s very low thermal conductivity. https://youtu.be/ZY5qy1gIF1s

As a premium convertible notebook, the XPS 15 2-in-1 is crafted with a milled aluminium case and features a carbon fibre palm rest area, Gorilla Glass 4 screen and a keyboard that uses maglev technology for a precise feel when you type on it! From USD 1,299, due April 2018 at Dell.com

Dell XPS 13

Dell’s XPS 13 is a very popular notebook model that Dell has significantly enhanced for 2018 and making the XPS 13 the smallest, lightest and most powerful 13-inch notebook now available. Apart from upgrading the XPS 13 family to 8th Gen Intel Core processors, Dell has also updated the display to an InfinityEdge (either FHD or 4K Ultra HD touchscreen) display, and like the XPS 15 2-in-1 there’s also GORE Thermal Insulation to keep the system cool even when its worked hard, plus it has a battery life of up to 19 hours 46 minutes.

Apart from the ‘usual’ platinum silver with carbon fibre colourway, Dell has added a new Rose Gold colour option that features a unique Alpine White interior created from woven glass fibre which is soft to the touch but light, strong and heat resistant. To counter yellowing, Dell has also incorporated a special UV and stain resistant coating. From USD999, available now at Dell.com.

New Dell Mobile Connect

To better enhance your experience, Dell has created a Mobile Connect App (available for iOS and Android) that wirelessly syncs your smartphone to your Dell notebook or Dell PC, so that you can leave your smartphone is your pocket or purse but still answer calls, messages and even access your mobile apps from your PC!

Dell Cinema

Available for select Dell XPS and Inspiron PCs, Dell Cinema is a new application to enhance your entertainment experience.

  • CinemaColor: powered by Windows HD Color, decodes and displays high dynamic range (HDR) streamed content with enhanced detail, more vivid hues, sharper brightness and a wider colour gamut; Netflix in HDR also is supported on Dell Cinema PCs

Engineered for PC gamers, the new Inspiron Gaming Desktop features 8th Gen Intel Core processors with up to six cores and graphics, solid-state drive options for faster boot-up times and intelligent thermal design for longer gaming sessions.
