Crucial has announced a new solid state drive targeted at the consumer and SMB segment, the BX200.
The Crucial BX200 is claimed to deliver sequential read and write speeds up to 540 MB/s and 490 MB/s respectively. Random read and write speeds go up to 66k and 78k IOPS respectively. That’s roughly around 13 times faster than your typical mechanical hard drive, while being 40 times more energy efficient as well. The drive uses a Silicon Motion SM2256 controller with Micron verified firmware.
The Crucial BX200 solid state drives are now available in the 2.5-inch form factor and come in 240GB, 480GB, and 960GB capacities. In the UK, the drives are priced at £66.99, £116.99 and £234.99, respectively. All new drives come with Crucial Storage Execution tool and are backed by a three-year limited warranty. They also come standard with Acronis True Image HD data migration software to facilitate easy transfer of your operating system and other data from your existing hard drive to the BX200 SSD.
