‘Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’ to feature Kevin Spacey, exosuits and more

On the heels of leaked content, Activision has officially revealed the next contender in the annual Call of Duty franchise–this time upping the ante with high-tech warfare and House of Cards‘ Kevin Spacey.

One day after spoilers were leaked for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Activision decided to unveil the game to FPS fans everywhere rather than keep things under wraps.

The leaks were spot-on, as proven by the game’s newly released reveal trailer (see below), showing off some quality footage featuring one of Hollywood’s most celebrated ruthless manipulators.

A coldly authoritative Kevin Spacey narrates the trailer, setting the overall mood for the game’s plotline in his best Frank Underwood portrayal while clips of in-game footage punctuate his words.

Atlas Exosuit

The glimpses treat us to a wealth of high-tech toys that gamers will use to dispatch baddies, including the powerful new Atlas suits (think the exo-suit worn by Matt Damon in Neil Blomkamp’s sci-fi Elysium) along with an array of versatile additions like camo, magnets for scaling walls and buildings, portable bullet-proof barriers and of course exceptionally powerful vehicles.

Spacey’s performance was powerful and ultimately underlined the overall themes of the game, whilst the combat scenes showcased the fluid action-packed elements offered by the campaign.

We see our heroes using their Atlas exosuits to leap impossible distances as well as perform dazzling feats of strength, displaying an interesting push forward for the franchise in terms of warpower. Of course guns are still a mainstay, but it’s curious to note that players can use their raw strength as a valuable asset even if you’re an eagle-eye shooter.

One of the most interesting things about the trailer is that we can’t really tell if Spacey is a hero or a villain–perhaps he shares a likeness with Frank Underwood, twisting political ideals in such a way that promotes chaos through order.

Or maybe he’s the President, pontificating on the necessary evils of ruling through power. Either way, his words are spellbinding and it will definitely be interesting to see how the game’s campaign pans out, as the footage sets the stage for a rather enjoyable experience.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is slated to release on Nov. 4, 2014 for what appears to be a release on next-gen consoles, including Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
