Blizzard to shut down ‘Diablo III’ auction house

Blizzard has announced that it intends to do away with the auction house from its Diablo III game.

“When we initially designed and implemented the auction houses, the driving goal was to provide a convenient and secure system for trades. But as we’ve mentioned on different occasions, it became increasingly clear that despite the benefits of the AH system and the fact that many players around the world use it, it ultimately undermines Diablo’s core game play: kill monsters to get cool loot,” said Blizzard’s Production Director John Hight.  “With that in mind, we want to let everyone know that we’ve decided to remove the gold and real-money auction house system from Diablo III.”

The eventual removal of the AH won’t happen until March 18, 2014, so AH users will have a bit more time to grind out some gameplay and hopefully pick up some loots that are worth selling.  How Blizzard will go about shutting down the AH is still in the works, but Hight has assured Diablo III players that, with the current development of Reaper of Souls and Loot 2.0, Blizzard is trying to offer gamers “much more rewarding game experience.”
