BlackBerry Q10 launched in Singapore, marries BB10 with QWERTY keyboard

The QWERTY-equipped sibling of the flagship BlackBerry Z10, the Q10, has been officially unveiled in Singapore. Aimed at users who still prefer having a physical QWERTY keyboard on their business-oriented handsets, the BlackBerry Q10 combines a redesigned chassis with the company’s latest BlackBerry 10 operating system to deliver a purist experience to appeal to even the most traditional of BlackBerry users.

At first glance, one would surely notice the various similarities between the Q10 and its supposed predecessor, the BlackBerry Bold 9900, from the overall look and build of the device to the presence of a physical QWERTY keyboard — something that I’m certain was dearly missed by die hard BlackBerry faithfuls when BlackBerry announced the company’s flagship Z10. Positioned as a high-end premium device like the Bold 9900, the Q10 retains some of the key design features from the 9900 such as the rugged stainless steel frame and back plate made of a carbon fibre-like glass weave material, resulting in a handset that’s both light and durable.

On the front of the handset, you will be greeted by an appreciably generous 3.1-inch touch-enabled display, the largest ever on a BlackBerry QWERTY handset. The classic QWERTY keyboard has also been redesigned for an improved typing experience. The keyboard is now straight and wider compared to the traditionally curved ones offered on Blackberry’s previous handsets with larger keys that are more spaced out to enable faster and more precise typing.

Features and Software

The Q10 is powered by BlackBerry’s latest BlackBerry 10.1 operating system that includes various software enhancements to the camera, hub and notifications among other changes. With Blackberry 10, you will be treated to features like the BlackBerry Hub that keeps all your messages and conversations in one place, allowing for easy and convenient access, along with a gesture-centric touch interface optimized for one-handed use.
