BBM for Android Wear will let users carry out a slew of functions directly from their wrist.
BBM is pretty much the only popular product BlackBerry is left with in this day and age, with its smartphones no longer finding the slightest demand in the consumer market. After launching an official BBM app for Android, iOS and Windows Phone, the Canadian company is ready to bring support for its messaging service to Android Wear-powered smartwatches.
BlackBerry didn’t reveal an exact date for the release of the Android Wear version of BBM, but it did go over the functionality it will offer. Users will be able to see complete messages from their contacts, reply back using voice commands or by using preset messages (for those moments when even replying from the smartwatch isn’t easy), and also accept or ignore invites, right from the comfort of their watch.
Smartwatches haven’t exactly set the market on fire, but with manufacturers hellbent on bringing smart functionality to users’ wrists, it is sure to be an important product in the coming months. With support for Android Wear, BlackBerry is adding yet another feature to attract users to its chat service, but it will hopefully not be too long before the Android Wear-compatible version goes live.
