BBM for Android and iPhone to resume rollout in the ‘next few hours’

BlackBerry has announced that BBM for Android and iPhone will start rolling out in a few hours.

The rollout will resume sometime later today (or tomorrow, depending on your time zone), and the app will be available on Google Play and the App Store. However, unlike the short-lived launch a few weeks ago, users won’t be able to start using BBM right away this time around – instead, they’ll have to sign up to enter a queue and will be given access gradually.

The initial launch of BBM was scrapped because too many users on the leaked Android version of app crashed BlackBerry’s servers, so a waiting period is probably the best way to go, even if that might not sit well with many who’ve been wanting to get their hands on the once-renowned messaging platform. However, if you registered for info on BBM before the previous launch, the wait time won’t apply to you.

BlackBerry will make another announcement once the app goes live on the respective app stores, but in the meantime, be sure to not download one of the many fake BBM apps that are likely to show up, at least on the Google Play Store. We’ll update this post with the official links when they’re live, so be sure to check back here later on, or head to BBM.com.

Update: Direct links to BBM have been added below. It will take some time before the app becomes available for everyone, so keep trying.
