Base variant of the Nintendo Switch may cost $250

Toys R Us Canada inadvertently revealed the retail cost of Nintendo’s upcoming Switch hybrid console. The listing showed that the console will cost $329.99 CAD in the country, translating to £200 UK, $250 USD, and $330 AUD.

The retailer took down the listing, but the pricing is in line with current predictions. The Wii also made its debut at a similar price point, and given that the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 start off at the $250 figure, it makes sense for Nintendo to position its upcoming console at around the same price. Given its hybrid nature, the Switch can be used as a portable handheld device or can be connected to a TV via HDMI.

The figure also lines up with rumors out of the UK suggesting the base variant will retail for £199.99, with a higher storage model that includes a bundled game set to make its debut for £249.99. That’s all we know about the Switch at this point, but Nintendo will share more details about the console next month. The little we do know of the console is that it will be powered by Nvidia hardware, and that the vendor collaborated heavily with Nintendo:

I guess you could also say that Nintendo contributed a fair amount to that growth. And over the next – as you know, the Nintendo architecture and the company tends to stick with an architecture for a very long time. And so we’ve worked with them now for almost two years. Several hundred engineering years have gone into the development of this incredible game console. I really believe when everybody sees it and enjoy it, they’re going be amazed by it. It’s really like nothing they’ve ever played with before. And of course, the brand, their franchise and their game content is incredible. And so I think this is a relationship that will likely last two decades and I’m super excited about it.
