ASUS M4A89GTD PRO series motherboards officially announced, boasts exclusive Core Unlocker feature.

Asus launched its new M4A89GTD PRO series motherboards yesterday at Taipei, claiming several performance-related improvements with various new features, with Core Unlocker being the most notable of them.

About a couple of weeks back, we posted an article which contained some rough info about Asus’s then upcoming M4A89GTD PRO motherboard. Unfortunately, details about the board were somewhat sketchy back then, and all we knew was that the AMD890GX/SB850-based board would come in 2 different flavours: one with USB 3.0 ports, and one using the older USB 2.0

Now that the board has finally been launched, more information has been shed about the specifications of the M4A89GTD PRO: it will feature 2 PCI-E x16 slots which supports CrossFireX, one PCI-e x4 and PCI-e x1 slot and 2 PCI slots.

In addition, the M4A89GTD PRO also supports Hybrid CrossFireX, a feature which will be useful for the more budget-oriented enthusiests who may want to utilize the board’s IGP.

But the main selling point of the M4A89GTD PRO is its Core Unlocker, which allows for the unlocking of any disabled processor cores (if available), thus allowing enthusiests and overclockers to immediately experience a performance boost. However, unlike other boards which usually require some fiddling around in the BIOS, Asus claims that a single button push on the M4A89GTD PTO will immediately unlock and activate any disabled processor cores, negating the need to go through the BIOS. We’re not sure how this will actually work, but  we have to admit that it will undoubtedly simplify the whole process.

Considering that the M4A89GTD PRO was only just launched, it will no doubt take some time for supply to trickle down over to our shores, but when it does, this may be one board which should definitely be worth saving up for.
