Asus has announced its fastest model router yet, the new DSL-AC88U. The ultra-fast AC3100 dual-band Wi-Fi modem router supports the latest high-speed G.fast DSL standard, in addition to the existing ADSL, ADSL2/2+ and VDSL2 standards. It supports Ethernet-based internet (WAN) connections as well, so you can connect to an existing fiber- or cable-modem service.
The Broadcom NitroQAM technology helps the DSL-AC88U deliver up to 1.25 times faster Wi-Fi speeds than conventional four-stream (4×4) routers. In terms of numbers, that translates to data rates of up to 2167Mbps on the 5GHz band and 1000Mbps on the 2.4GHz band. The combined concurrent bandwidth supported by the router is up to 3167 Mbps. The high speeds should allow for lag-free online gaming, smooth 4K UHD streaming, and blazing-fast file-sharing.
The DSL-AC88U comes with parental controls that lets users monitor and filter internet activity, which could come handy if you have kids at home. You can filter certain websites or apps, or even restrict the amount of time a device can access the internet.
Ports at the back include 4 x RJ45 10/100/1000/Gigabits BaseT for LAN, 1x RJ11 for xDSL, 1 x RJ45 10/100/1000/Gigabits BaseT for WAN, 1x USB 2.0, and 1x USB 3.0 port. Security features include WPA2-PSK and WPA-PSK. The modem routers support all the popular operating systems, including Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows XP, and Mac OS X.
