According to the poster, Ubisoft's new title will be labeled Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, and will feature a new adventure that takes place in the 1700's with Edward Kenway–Haytham's father and Connor's grandfather–as the assassin protagonist. The artwork itself shows the deadly assassin confidently wreaking havoc aboard the deck of a pirate ship, taking out scurvy-addled scallywags with a black flag rippling in the wind above.

Edward Kenway, the less-than-virtuous hero of AC4: Black Flag.

The swashbuckling Edward Kenway has been reported as a "privateer, assassin, and an occasional pirate", which may suggest that this game's hero may be less virtuous than Altair, Ezio, and the others.

This information fits in with the description that Ubisoft's CEO gave about the new game, as he claimed that the new Assassin's Creed game would feature "an all-new Assassin’s Creed hero, within an all new team and time period."

Imagine the possibilities!
The leaked artwork, which was sent to retailers, features a map of the Carribean on the other side, showing a variety of locations such as Havana, Kingston and the southern tip of Florida–places that our seafaring pirate-assassin may visit. Additionally, the map also features a skull-and-crossbones icon for certain locations, which may be the Assassin's icon for this game.
Along with the leaked poster, an in-game screenshot has also surfaced, giving players their first look at Edward Kenway and a hazy backdrop of a busy seaport. The screenshot is a bit unfocused, but it does show our seasoned hero, and sparks off a new wave of anticipation and speculation for what Ubisoft has in store.

Rumors of a pirate-themed Assassin's Creed game have been floating across the internet for a while now, and the rumors and speculation further ignited the flame which was first sparked with Assassin Creed III's amazingly-fun seafaring ship-to-ship combat missions.
It will definitely be interesting to see if Black Flag incorporates open-sea exploration, allowing gamers to go from island to island and search for bountiful treasure chests and sink a multitude of aggressive sea dogs in the process.
Ubisoft has yet to officially announced Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, however it is rumored that the developers are holding a mysterious AC-themed event today, and we'll have more information as it becomes available.
